Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope this finds you and your family well. Can you believe the 24-25 school year is here? We are thrilled that you have elected to have your child attend Oak View School. This is an amazing school and we are here to do what we can to promote your child’s education, health, and well-being. School plays an important role in all of our lives and having your child at school is one of the most important things you can do to promote their success.
The California Department of Public Health has come out with new guidelines called, “Considerations when a child has symptoms of illness.” Oak View Elementary School will be using these guidelines to help us determine next steps of when your child arrives to school exhibiting signs. In my experience, many students come to the office complaining of a runny noses and cough because of the allergies to dust, hay, smoke fire and pollen. Talk with your child’s health care provider about an over-the-counter medication, like Zyrtec or Clairton, which may help your child with seasonal allergies. Allergies can also cause tummy aches that is related to post-nasal mucus drip.
School mornings can be hectic so doing things ahead of time the night before can often take the morning struggle away to allow for an on-time school arrival. Some recommendations include:
1) having your child lay out their clothes the evening before;
2) having your child’s backpack (all assignments and books) ready by the door or in the car ready to go the night before;
3) breakfast selections decided the evening before;
4) wake up ½ hour earlier in the morning; reducing the rush to allow more child transition time. Children sense and react to their parent’s stress;
5) champion school and make a commitment with your child to arrive on time and daily school attendance.
Helping your child understand the importance of on-time school arrival and being at school daily helps them prepare for real world expectations. In an employment situation, late arrivals and missing work are frowned upon. School is an important time in your child’s life to ensure their success. The Oak View team is here to support positive opportunities and learning experiences.
Warmest Regards,
